We took a day trip to Glasgow yesterday which was about an hour bus ride from Edinburgh and it only cost us £3 return each. Good to know our old student passes still work for something. Before we went a few people told us how dirty and boring Glasgow was. A few even said that they never wanted to go back there.
When we arrived we went straight the main square called "George's Square" where they had a jazz festival going on so we stayed and watched that for a while. The city council building overlooks the square and is an amasing building. I am not sure on the date but a rough guess would say it is about 300 to 400 years old at least. When then spent the next hour trying to find a hard rock cafe (since I collect the shot glasses from eveywhere we go) and ended up going in circles from everybody`s directions. We ended up getting frustrated and used the internet in a Mcdonalds and went on the Hardrock website to find out they don't have a cafe in Glasgow. We did get to see a lot of the finacial district of Glasgow though so it wasn't all a waste.
After that we decided on a walk down by the river and then went off to the Glasgow cathedral. Absolutley amazing. It was by far our favortie part of Glasgow. The cathedral was built in the 1400's and you can see a lot of similatries between this cathedral and a lot of English cathdrals like St. Pauls, Ely, and Oxford. I must have taken about 50 pictures alone of this cathedral.....Such a tourist.....
Overall though Glasgow is a nice city. There is not as much to see there as there is in Edinburgh though and like people told us it is kind of dirty. The buildings are a lot more modern in Glasgow so if your looking for more historic buildings then Edinbugh is the place to visit. If we had to gone to Glasgow first I am sure we would have liked it more since we had nothing to really compare it to. If I was going to compare it to cities in Canada, Glasgow would be Toronto and Edinburgh would be Ottawa.
Anyways the rest of today we are shopping for supplies for our camping trip since we leave early tomorrow, and I think we are off to a bar tonight with my sister and her friends. Probably make for a rough morning.....good thing I am not driving.
I will make a new post in about 10 days as I don't think there will be to many times to get access to a computer.
Talk to you all soon

First "real" Scottish Meal
So I had my first real scottish meal last night of haggis, carrots, and turnips. For those of you who don't know what haggis is it is basically sheeps intestines and other parts packed into a sheeps stomach and tied off. When we got it from the store it was precooked so it only took about 20min to cook. Suprisingly it was really good. It tasted a bit like spicy ground beef and I highly recommend it.
Edinburgh is a beautiful city with so much to see. We ended up walking down the royal mile yesterday which has the new scottish parliment buidling at the bottom and then goes uphll until you reach edinburgh castle which we plan on going into today. We havn't gone into any of the buildings yet or done any tours although we did walk right around the downtown core and saw Waverly Station where harry potter was filmed (it wasn't really filmed at kings cross in london).
We are leaving for a 9 day camping trip up to the orkney islands and back on saturday stopping off at the isle of skye, loch ness, glen coe, inverness, ben nevis, john ogroats, aberdeen. Should be a really fun trip altough there are 4 of us in a small 2 door hatchback honda civic.
Hope everyone is doing well and we will post pictures when we get the chance.
